Thursday 245 Audi Richmond Stakes

                                                                   Richmond Stakes
                                                         Colts and Geldings 6 Furlongs

The final leg of the trio of Goodwood juvenile races which has been won by the likes of Dick Turpin, Libranno and Harbour Watch. As this roll call suggests it is another race that Richard Hannon has a strong recent record in. This years renewal doesn't look particularly strong with one stand out candidate

Andhesontherun- Useful sort from the Roger Varian stable who has won 2 out of his 4 races to date. Won on debut when taking an age to pick up before flying late to collar Atlantic Affair on the line. He was stepped up to listed class next time running respectively to finish 2nd to subsequent Queen Mary winner Rizeena. Then disappointed when midfield in a muddling Windsor Castle, only beaten 4 lengths, before winning a 4 runner novice stakes last time. That performance, his 1st run over 6 furlongs, should not be underestimated as the 2nd Zaraee looked a useful tool on debut. Definite place claims

Bahamian Heights- One win from from 5 starts when he beat Mappa Mundi, listed placed since, at Yarmouth. Failed to cope with the rise in class when only 7th in the July stakes at 80/1. Looks exposed and is another example of Clive Brittain setting the bar too high

Ben Hall- Maiden winner from the John Gosden stable who comes here having finished 7th in Windsor Castle. Was noticeably short in the betting that day but didn't seem to have any excuses. Although connections are well respected this son of Bushranger will have to improve a chunk to have pretensions of winning here

Cable Bay- well bred maiden winner from the Charlie Hills stable who is making a massive step up in class here. However he did beat Whaleweigh Station, now rated 98, and the trainer has had a productive time with his juveniles this year. Will have to improve on what he has shown so far but is still unexposed and not without a chance

Figure of Speech- Godolphin raider who comes here on the back of an excellent 2nd in the July Stakes at Newmarket. Drifted across the course that day and was unlucky that the eventual winner made his run on the other side of the course. Slammed Whaleweigh Station by 4 lengths on debut and that form alone would stand up to close scrutiny here. Very much the one to beat for rookie trainer Charlie Appleby

Jallotta- busy and useful juvenile from the Mick Channon stable. Ran creditably in both the Coventry and the July stakes. Was therefore slightly disappointing when only 4th in a group 3 at the Curragh last time. Possible that his busy period is catching up with him and would probably need a career best to win

Miracle of Medinah- Cheaply bought Milk it Mick colt who has been improving at a rate of knots lately. Bolted up in a listed race at Sandown last time but hard to take form seriously as the clear form pick bombed out. This will likely prove a bridge too far and unlikely to extend his winning streak in this

Parbold- Coventry 2nd who is engaged in the Vintage Stakes on Wednesday. Very unlikely to head here but obviously well respected if he does

Saayerr- Useful sort who won his first 2 races before finishing a creditable 8th in the Coventry. Bested the useful Sacha Park on debut at Sandown before then just getting up to nail the super sprint runner up Lilbourne Lass on the line on his 2nd start. Form entitles him to respect and his trainer and jockey are both enjoying a fine period of form. Genuine each way possibilities

Salford Red Devil- Richard Fahey juvenile who has ran exclusively at the Roodeye so far. Consistent sort who did well to win from a unpromising position last time. His trainer has a poor strike rate with his two year olds here, 1/23, and this one  unlikely to be aiding that record here

Thunder Strike- from the all conquering Richard Hannon stable who has a terrific record in this race. A winner of his first 3 races including the listed Woodcote Stakes he then went to the Coventry. Ran well that day finishing 4th having been in the firing line throughout. Blotted his copybook when finishing last at heavy odds on when dropped back to listed class last time. If you can forgive that run then he is a big player

Verdict- Obviously a lot depends on the participation of Parbold but if we presume he is a unlikely runner this looks best left to Figure of Speech. He looked like a horse to follow when smashing a decent sort on debut and was possibly unlucky not to take the group 2 July Stakes last time. Thunder Strike would be a big player on his best form and his trainer has won this in 4 of the last 5 years, but he has to bounce back from a poor run last time. Andhesontherun was impressive on his first run over 6 furlongs and he and Saayerr are respected as dangers

2 Andhesonthrun
3 Saayerr

340 Thursday Veuve Clicquot Vintage Stakes

                                                              Vintage Stakes

The second of the three juvenile group races at Glorious Goodwood and often the most classy. Recent winners include Group one winners Shamardal, Rio De La Plata, Xtension and Olympic Glory as well as Derby winner Sir Percy. This years renewal might lack a bona fide superstar but still looks the classiest of the three contests this week

Expert- improving colt who represents the trainer/owner combination that has taken this race the past two years. 4th over an inadequate trip on debut he has improved for the move up to today's trip of 7 furlongs. A decisive winner of a maiden on Saturday he is clearly on the upgrade but was readily bested by Outstrip victim True Story the time before. Will have to take another leap forward to be involved at the finish

Lanark- Solid sort who is making his 3rd visit to Goodwood. He followed up a decent 2nd on debut with a victory, helped by main market rival unseating, from a subsequent winner. Outclassed in the Coventry he has since bounced back finishing 2nd in a useful nursery before easily taking a conditions stakes at Newbury. Trainer always to be feared at this festival and has an in form Jockey on board. However will need a few to under perform if he is to take top honours here

Outstrip- Unexposed Godolphin challenger who comes here having impressed when winning at Newmarket on debut. That looked a decent heat and the second that day True Story has since slammed Expert by 4 lengths on his next start. Has to be taken very seriously and a good chance that he will be the first group winner for trainer Charlie Appleby

Parbold- Clear form choice for the Fahey stable coming here on the back of his 2nd to War Command in the Coventry at Royal Ascot. Made a winning start to his career in a hot York maiden, 6 of the next 7 have since won, before going onto the Royal meeting. Couldn't live with the impressive winner that day and although a few in behind have since let the form down, he is still a massive runner here

Recanted- Maiden winner who was found wanting when stepped up in grade in the Superlative Stakes last time out. Didn't beat a rival that day and likely this is a better race. Not easy to see him figuring here

Rossa Corsa- Another busy juvenile from the Mick Channon yard`who has been highly tried since his maiden win at Chester. Trainer had a similarly exposed type who was narrowly beaten in this last year at massive odds but it is still unlikely to see how this 90 rated horse is going to win this

Toormore- Possibly the most interesting runner in the race who represents the trainer/jockey combination who have won this race for the past 3 seasons. Made a hughely impressive start his career at Leicester when getting the better of the very useful Ertijaal with the pair 7 lengths clear of the remainder. Hasn't been since and has reportedly had some back trouble but if totally over his physical problems he will take all the beating here

Verdict- this looks a 3 horse race, with clear form pick Parbold and the two unbeaten colts the ones to concentrate on. Parbold is respected on his Coventry second but i feel the other two may improve past him. Toormore would have been the selection for a team that have harvested this race recently if he had a trouble free prep. However with slight doubts surrounding his fitness preference goes to Outstrip who looked impressive when swooping late to deny his stablemate True Story, impressive winner since, on debut. The selection looked green that day and could easily make the necessary improvement to take a hand here

1 Outstrip
2 Toormore
3 Parbold

230 Wednesday Goodwood Bet 365 Molecomb Stakes

                                                  The Molecomb Stakes

The first of the 3 big juvenile races at Glorious Goodwood comes in the form of the Molecomb Stakes. A group three over five furlongs it is often won by a quality juvenile speedball. This year looks an open heat with not one of the field owning a group victory so far

Ambiance- Mick Channon colt who is a half brother to the Hackwood Stakes winner Heeraat. Went off a very well backed 3/1 shot on debut in a traditionally strong Newbury Maiden but cut little ice finishing 9th. He has since proved that to be all wrong winning twice including at Listed level and finishing an excellent 4th to crack American Colt No Nay Never in the group 2 Norfolk stakes. Ran below that form in France last time behind the excellent filly Vorda and it may be his busy schedule is starting to take a toll. However the trainer likes to keep his juveniles busy and won the race last year with a similar type in Bungleinthejungle who was also making his 6th career start. Useful performer but enough negatives for me to take him on here

Anticipated- Another juvenile put in his place by Vorda at Maisons-Laffitte last week when finishing one place ahead of Ambiance in 5th. Always well regarded he won on debut at even money at Windsor before besting Justice Day under a canny Richard Hughes ride at Ascot, returning there for the Royal meeting when finishing a close up 3rd in the Windsor Castle. That was a muddling race, many formlines represented here, and on his run against Justice Day i couldn't have such a price discrepancy between the two. Respected but too short in the betting to be a play here

Brown Sugar- Ran a blinder on debut when 2nd as a unconsidered 40/1 shot behind the useful Jallotta before easily taking a Salisbury maiden by 5 lengths from a subsequent winner on second start. Was then stepped up in class taking in the group 2 July Stakes yet was only 10th beaten over 8 lengths. On the face of it that was a disappointing run but he pulled like a train early that day and Richard Hughes wasn't hard on him when his chance had gone. I would be willing to forgive that run and i think he may be a player at big odds in this

Justice Day- Likeable Colt from the David Elsworth stable who has 2 wins and 2 places from his 5 starts. Won in decent style on debut, had meritocracy behind, before an arguably unlucky 2nd to Anticipated next time. Went to Newmarket for an egg and spoon race which he duly won before heading north to Edinburgh for a valuable conditions race narrowly failing to give Sleeper King 3lbs. He was potentially inconvenienced by the draw in the Windsor Castle when only 9th, finishing 3rd of 13 in his group. The early 25/1 has been snapped up but may still be a touch of value at his current odds

Meritocracy- Last seen finishing down the field when top weight in the super sprint. Had previously shown decent form without suggesting he was up to this exalted level. His trainer may have had a renaissance with his juveniles this year but this one is unlikely to be adding to that record here

Sleeper King- very sharp juvenile from the in form Kevin Ryan stable. Traveled better than anything on debut over 6 furlongs when fading close home to finish 4th beaten 1.25 lengths by Coventry 2nd Parbold. Dropped to 5 furlongs next time he got up close home to deny Justice Day, again travelling best of all throughout. Led close home before fading late when 8th in the Windsor Palace. Every chance that this track will suit better than Ascot. A big player in this for his in form yard

Supplicant- runner up in the Windsor Palace when nabbed close home by an inspired Johnny Murtagh on Extortionist. May have been a 20/1 shot that day but there was no fluke about his run. A ready winner as favourite on debut he then ran in an extremely hot Beverley conditions race finishing 3rd beaten 1/2 a length. A massive drifter on course and poorly drawn he did well to finish on the heels of two very useful rivals that day. Ryan Moore takes over today and deserves his place at the head of the market

Majestic Alexander- well bred filly from the David Evans yard who won at Wolverhampton at the beginning of April and who has done connections proud ever since. A career best last time when third to Ambiance in a listed contest she will have to step forward again here if she is to trouble the principles

Reroute- Unexposed filly from the upwardly mobile Ed Walker yard. An impressive winner on debut at York when besting the useful Royal Mezyan she was sent to Ascot for the Queen Mary only 6 days later. Trainer admitted in the build up to this that he may have went to the well too soon and so her creditable 5th beaten under 3 lengths has the potential to be upgraded. Gets the fillies allowance here but likely to have to improve if she is to win

Verdict- An open renewal which probably lacks a superstar. Supplicant looks a worthy favourite based on his career to date and the upgrade in Jockey does his chance no harm at all. However there are a few horses with the potential to better than they have shown so far, chief among them Sleeper King who has traveled like a high quality horse in his 3 races to date. Goodwood may suit and it is possible that he will be able to find the improvement needed to go close here and at double figure odds he looks the value play. Of the rest i think that Brown Sugar and Justice Day may well outrun their respective odds and possibly grab a place on the podium

1 Sleeper King
2 Supplicant
3 Brown Sugar

300 Catterick Thursday Pinpoint Recruitment Nursery Handicap

                                         Pinpoint Recruitment Nursery Handicap

Milly's Secret- Consistent filly from the in form Ann Duffield stable who has yet to finish out of the frame in her four races to date. Beaten a neck last time when top weight in a nursery, she again carries the maximum weight here. Will have to improve to take this off of 80 but the step up to 7 furlongs should suit and should be on the premises once more

Crowdmania- Well related Shamardal colt who went into numerous notebooks on the back of his staying on 5th in a 5 furlong Newmarket maiden that has worked out terrifically well. Slightly disappointing next time out when 6th at York but that has since proved to be a decent race. Stepping up to 6 furlongs last time he improved to finish 4th to Mappa Mundi, listed placed since, beaten just over a length. The step up to 7 furlongs should suit and with the trainer in red hot form it will be a let down if he cannot go close in this off of a mark of 77

Street Boss- Tim Easterby inmate who has finished third on his two most recent appearances. Will have to improve on what he has shown far to go close in this

Senorita Guest- Expensive filly who has been placed in 4 of her 5 starts to date. Ran her best race last time on nursery debut when 2nd to the useful Godolphin filly Autumn Lily at Ascot. That form entitles her to respect here but likely to find one or two too good

Flora Medici- Sir Mark Prescott filly who won a seller on her penultimate start. However failed to build on that when weakening tamely in the aforementioned Ascot nursery. She finished 15 lengths behind Senorita Guest that day and no reason why she will finish ahead of her let alone win

Sakhalin Star- 3 race maiden who gets in off of 59 allowing for his riders claim. Has steadily improved with racing, running his best race to date when third at Doncaster last time. That run gives him claims, the first two could be decent, off of such a light weight. But the yard are struggling for juvenile winners this year, just 1/35, and for that reason not difficult to pass over

Kraka Gym- Clodovil Gelding who has one placing from his 3 runs to date. That was a useful effort when 2nd to the 3 time winner Zalzilah but hasn't been so good either side of that effort. Gets in here off 62 so a reproduction of that run would see him go close in this

It's All A Game- Richard Guest filly who wears a visor here and who is running from along way out of the weights. Has shown nothing in her career to date to suggest she will be good enough here

Baltic Fire- Colt who is rated 47 and is a stone out of the handicap here. No more needs to be added

Verdict- A decent race but one that surely is within the capabilities of Crowdmania who gets in here off 77 and is a confident selection. Milly's Secret looks the obvious danger but Kraka Gym could be more of a threat if reproducing his penultimate run off a mark of 62

1 Crowdmania
2 Kraka Gym
3 Milly's Secret

350 Newbury Saturday Weatherbys Super Sprint

                                                           Super Sprint

The first of the often impossible to solve sales race comes in the form of the Weatherbys Super Sprint. 25 runners with varying degrees of form with the weights being decided by sales price. Often the domain of the bigger trainers, with Richard Hannon in particular enjoying targeting the big pot

Meritocracy- Likable sort who has not been out of the front three in his 6 runs to date. Probably ran his best run to date last time, when winning a Chepstow novices event by 5 lengths. However that was a weak race, the main danger ran well below form, and will have to improve to win this off top weight

Morning Post- Maiden who ran well enough on debut at York to be sent off at 2/9 next time at Hamilton. Failed to take that gilt edged opportunity, so unlikely to be winning this giving weight to a few useful looking sorts

Haikbidiac- Inmate from the in form William Haggas stable who won impressively on debut. Followed that with two solid thirds in better grade, before finishing in midfield in the Windsor Castle at Royal Ascot. Not without ability although questionable if good enough here

Proclamationofwar- 3 race maiden who has shown a similar level of form in his 3 runs to date. Finished runner up last time beaten 2.5 lengths behind the useful Lexington Rose in a conditions race at Musselburgh. No reason why he will overturn the form with that rival and unlikely to break his maiden tag in this

Weisse Socken- Acclamation filly who was well thought enough to go off 8/11 on debut. Finally got her head in front on her 4th run last time, and her 3rd to the since listed placed Love in the Desert would give her a squeak here. One of the more likely rank outsiders

Biography- The first of the Hannons and the mount of stable jockey Richard Hughes who is unable to do the weight on the favourite. Finished ahead of Weisse Socken on his penultimate start before finishing 4th last time at Salisbury. That looked a disappointing run at the time, but the form has been massively upgraded over the past 24 hours. Foolish to rule out completely, but a few others appear to possess more compelling profiles in the race

Peniaphobia- Looks Richard Faheys number one on jockey bookings. Has won two of his three races to date but made hard work of justifying long odds on last time when besting todays rival Blockade by 1/2 length. Also the form of his second run when runner up to Steventon Star doesn't look as good now as it did at the time. Have to respect the stable and seems to have been pointed here from an early stage. Not overly convinced by his profile and short enough in the betting to give the swerve

Urban Dreamer- Frustrating sort who is still a maiden after 7 runs. Ran his worst race since debut last time when finishing tenth of ten at Chester. No chance here

Der Blaue Reiter- A rare winning debutant from the George Baker yard when besting the frustrating Cockney Bob. Predictably outclassed when last seen in the Windsor Castle and likely to face the same fate here

Foxy Clarets- Another runner from the Richard Fahey yard. Ran a really promising race on debut, travelling best of all before fading in the final stages. Will obviously have to improve radically on that form but not without a chance of doing so. A possible runner at huge odds

Gym Shoes- Finished 4th on debut behind todays rival Memory Styx last week. Mauritius based Richard Mullen takes the ride but cannot see him taking a hand here

Bird of Light- Filly from the Hannon stable who has won her only race to date. She was impressive that day although the form amounts to little. Hasn't been seen on the racetrack for 75 days, so possibly has had some issues. However still unexposed and if ready to go after her absence could well make her presence felt

Danfazi- Consistent gelding, never out of the first 4 in 6 runs, who got a deserved victory in his penultimate start. Nothing in his profile gives the impression he will good enough to add to that solitary victory here

Eccleston- Cheaply bought son of Acclamation who won on debut and gets in off an attractive weight here. Went off 5/4 in a Doncaster maiden first time out and won readily from two useful yardsticks. Was considered good enough to go for the Coventry next time when making no show finishing last. Obviously would have liked to have seen him run better at Ascot but the form of his debut puts him right in the mix here off of 8-4. A big player

Yorkshire Relish- A winner of the valuable seller at York last time. It may often be that race turns out better than the average seller, but it is still a seller and that makes him easy enough to pass over in this heat

Orton Park- Winner of the first juvenile race of the season at Kempton in march. Has been unable to get his head in front since despite running consistently and is beginning to look exposed. A most unlikely winner here

Lexington Rose- Smashing filly who has yet to run a bad race to date. Beat the reopposing Proclamationofwar comfortably last time and before that showed decent form when second in the Hilary Needler at Beverley. Was possibly unlucky that day, chinned late by the fast finishing Ventura Mist, and a repeat of that form would put her right in the mix here

Lilbourne Lass- Likely favourite and has massive claims off a feather weight for the all conquering Richard Hannon team with king of the lightweights Jimmy Quinn booked to ride. A winner of 2 of her 3 races to date her only defeat came when beaten a short head to Coventry 8th Saayerr. Slammed the useful Majestic Alexander on her most recent start and likely to have had this race as a target for sometime. A massive runner here off of 8-1

Memory Styx- Very busy filly who is having her 12th start of the campaign. Finally got her head in front last time at Hamilton having finished runner up on no less than 7 occasions. That was a well deserved success but on the balance of her form she is unlikely to follow up here

Alutiq- 2 time winner who finished a respectable 7th in the Queen Mary last time. Her trainer is having a productive time with her juveniles this year. Another who has looks attractively weighted on what she has done on the track and has the assistance of the excellent Cathy Gannon in the saddle. Has been well found in the market and looks a bit tight for me, reluctantly passed over

Blockade- A willing filly hailing from the stable of the upwardly mobile James Tate. Seems to be improving and finished one length behind Peter Mac, who recently sold at Tattersalls for 95,000 guineas, last time out. Still doesn't look as appealing as some of her fellow lightweights here

Hopefilly- Winner on second start when just beating Memory Styx on the line at Nottingham. That was a big improvement on her debut run and was still green that day so more improvement may well be forthcoming. Ed Walker knows the time of day with his two year old's and whilst this one will have to take another leap forward it is not unreasonable to assume she will

Khalice- Twice raced maiden who took a step backwards on her second start, promising enough when runner up on debut, when last of 5 beaten over ten lengths. Will have to leave that form light years behind if she is to take a hand here

Kodafine- Filly who often proves unruly at the gate. If she does jump away still more likely to finish last than first

Oasis Town- One of the many Sleeping Indian progeny in the Kevin Ryan yard. An impressive winner of a low key auction maiden at Carlisle on his second start. His trainer has picked up recently in the juvenile department having had a slow start to the season by his high standards. However does Look unders in the market to my eyes on what he has done and readily passed over

Verdict- Cracking race as you would expect for the money. The obvious starting point is Lilbourne Lass for the Hannon team who looks as if she has been aimed at this prize from a long way out, had form worthy of a trip to Ascot, but she has been well found in the market. I have opposed her by one that did go to Ascot Eccleston who finished last in the Coventry. That run was slightly below par even allowing for the rise in class, but his form on debut stands up to scrutiny here and he is currently trading at a double figure price. If looking for one at a big price i would suggest Bird of Light who is unbeaten and unexposed having won on debut

1 Eccleston
2 Lilbourne Lass
3 Bird of Light

400 Lingfield Emerson Cranes/ British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Fillies Stakes Div 1

                                                              400 Lingfield

A really good looking midweek class 5 maiden on the all weather at Lingfield, with some promising types from big yards, some of whom having already shown decent form

Along Again- Sir Michael Stoute inmate who is bred for further, but finished a creditable second to the semi useful Majestic Alexander on debut. Drifted wildly that day, SP of 16/1 having been as short as 4/1 in places on the early markets, so it can be assumed she wasn't cherry ripe. With Ryan Moore taking over from James Doyle today, she must be considered a live chance

Cockney Belle- Cockney Rebel filly who has ran two respectable races to date. Improved to be third on second start, mixed messages from the form, but will likely need to improve again to take a hand here. Trainer hasn't really got going with his juveniles yet this term with just the solitary winner from 22 runners

Gender Agenda- Well related filly by Holy Roman Emperor. Her two runs to date came when her trainer was struggling for winners, has improved recently, so her performances can possibly be upgraded. Was well backed, went off at 7/1, on debut in a weak looking Newmarket maiden but found it all too much and was well beaten. Stepped up a furlong at Kempton next time, she improved to finish third, beaten 2.75 lengths, by the useful looking Feedyah. Has to prove she can be as effective at six but still a likely player

Hoku- Useful filly who is dropping in class having finished 8th in listed company last time out. Obviously well regarded early on, she went off a well backed 2/1 favourite on debut when a slow start scuppered her chance, eventually finishing third behind the useful Quator. Improved on that form next time when 2nd to Queen Mary flop Beldale Memory in a listed contest at York. Has to be respected dropping back into maiden class for a trainer who knows how to handle his juveniles. However the fact she finished further behind Disko last time than Cockney Belle did on the turf course here tempers enthusiasm somewhat.

Letthemusictakeus- Late foal from the Ralph Beckett stable. Her listed winning dam has already produced three winners at stud, including the group one winning miler Immortal Verse. Trainer has a smashing record with his two year old's here, having won this race twice in the past 4 years including with the useful Puff. It is hard not to be impressed with this one's credentials on paper. A very interesting newcomer

Much Promise- Out of a winner over 12 furlongs and a 1/2 sister to the recent Oaks winner Talent her pedigree would suggest stamina is likely to be her forte. However being by Invincible Spirit and also related to Skilful who showed his best form over 7 furlongs it is not inconceivable that she will have the pace for this trip on debut. Trainer hasn't had many juveniles out so far this year but is always respected in this sphere. Not without hope

Rosina Jay- Art Connoisseur filly whose dam won at 14 furlongs. Likely to need further on pedigree and isn't berthed well in stall 11. An unlikely winner of this on debut

Setai- Dubawi filly who is related to winners and cost connections £50,000. Was well touted on debut, going off at 5/1, but offered little encouragement in being beaten 16 lengths. Trainers often improve for their debut but it would take a leap of faith to see her contesting the finish today

Sing Out Sister- From the Mick Channon yard and who didn't shape without promise on debut when 6th. However this looks a stronger heat than that was and she will have to massively improve to win from the widest gate here

Talent Spotter- showed enough promise on debut to go off favourite last time out at Doncaster but failed to justify the market support when finishing a lacklustre 10th, beaten almost 8 lengths. Stable won this last year and their two year old's are flying but it is difficult to see this one enhancing those records today

Threetimesalady- Related to a few useful performers but lacked know how on debut when finishing a well beaten 8th. Likely to be seen to better effect in the future and looks a unlikely winner here

Verdict- A cracking maiden in which many can be given some sort of chance. I am going to take a chance on Gender Agenda who drops back in trip after her promising run at Kempton. Her pedigree suggests she will need further but she travelled nicely last time and it may just be that she was better for the experience she gained on debut. Her trainer is in much better form now and i think she could be the value play in this. Of the many dangers i like the debutant Letthemusictakeus who is certainly bred to be useful and whose trainer has a swell record at this track with his juveniles. Along Again is taken to finish in the frame, with Hoku and Much Promise also obvious dangers

210 Newmarket Thursday The July Stakes

                                                           The July Stakes

A very exciting renewal of the July Stakes with a field full of promising two year olds. Three bring Royal Ascot form to the table and they are taken on by three juveniles whose profiles are without blemish. Could be the finest two year old race of the season so far

Anjaal- a son of Bahamian Bounty who cost 105,000 guineas as a yearling for owner Sheikh Hamdan and trained by Richard Hannon. Two runs to date have resulted in one win. Finished Eighth on debut when favourite in a Newmarket maiden that has been boosted time and again this year.  Then made no mistake when bolting up by four lengths at Beverley when heavily backed. That was a weak race in the context of this and will have to improve to win for connections who took this race last year with Alhebayeb

Astaire- was a very impressive winner on his only start to date, when making all in a maiden at York. That wasn't a great race for the track but he showed good speed and won cosily. The performance can be upgraded by the lack of stable form in the two year old department, and whilst they are still not banging in the level of winners they usually do, things have improved a touch recently. Could well fly under the radar here and has the potential to run a bring race at rewarding odds

Bahamian Heights- another son of Bahamian Bounty, who is having a fine season with his juveniles. This one looks to lack the class of some of these although he showed a fine attitude when winning last time out under a good ride from today's jockey. Would appear to be another example of Clive Brittain over facing one of his charges. Not for mine on this occasion

Brown Sugar- ran an incredible race on debut, when an unconsidered 40/1 shot in a Newmarket maiden won by the reopposing Jallota. Was slowly away that day and drifted across the track before finishing like a train to be beaten only just over a length. Made no mistake next time when odds on at Salisbury winning easily by five lengths. Will be interesting to see how he fares in the market in relation to Anjaal. Another one to take very seriously

Canyari- seen only once just under two months ago when bolting up by five lengths on debut from the useful Legend Rising, twice a winner since. The third that day who was ten lengths behind has also won a maiden at Ripon. Will be intriguing to find out why he has been off the track since debut, as his bare form merited a trip to Royal meeting. If he has been targeted for this race then must have a massive chance of making it worth the wait

Figure of Speech- impressive winner on debut when slamming Whaleweigh Station by four lengths over course and distance. No reason why that one should turn the form around and the trainer and jockey combination are always to be feared on the July course. However they don't always improve as much as expected from first run to second but if this one does then he is another fascinating player

Intermath- From the David Evans yard and Tom Queally rides. Perhaps a fortunate winner on debut at Salisbury, favourite veered violently hampering the second and third, but very unfortunate when returning to the Wiltshire venue for his second start. Was cantering just off the pace when he fly jumped the path unseating today's jockey. May well have won that day but will have to improve to trouble the principles here

Jallota- consistent sort who has form lines with Astaire and Brown Sugar who ran his best race to date when 5th to the hugely impressive War Command in the Coventry. Finished only 2.25 lengths of the second that day and that form gives him a chance here. However is more exposed than many in this field and it would be a surprise if he finished top of the pile

Master Carpenter- a colt by first season sire Mastercraftsman who has won 2 of his 4 races to date for trainer Rod Millman. Finished well down the field when quietly fancied for the Chesham last time and the suspicion is this is a stronger race. Back down to the trip where he showed his best form but i can't see him having the class to take a hand at the finish here

Sir John Hawkins- Regally bred juvenile, 2nd foal of multiple group one winner Peeping Fawn by Henrythenavigotor, from the Ballydoyle team. Perhaps surprising given his pedigree that he has proved so precocious, beating a useful yardstick of Jim Bolgers on debut before running a fine race when third behind his stablemate War Command in the Coventry. Trainer won this with Ivan Denisovichs in 2005, and has had only one runner since when Gale Force Ten was a beaten favourite last year. Has the best form in the field, but its fair to say this wouldn't be a target for the stables absolute top notch juveniles. Likely to be well found in the market and opposable for mine in this

Whaleweigh Station- Evidently well thought of by his trainer, won this in 2006, who was well backed when a good second on debut. Was expected to put this experience to good use next time over course and distance, when sent off at 6/4. Ran a solid race but was firmly put in his place by debutant Figure of Speech and no real reason why he will reverse the form with that rival

A fascinating renewal, with plenty of unexposed sorts taking on those with Ascot form. Obviously the market will tell us more but at this stage it is fair to assume that Sir John Hawkins will be a pretty warm order. He brings the strongest form to the table but i feel may be vulnerable at the potential prices with plenty of likely improver's lurking in the field. Whilst it is a bit unsettling he hasn't been seen for two months Canyari's debut form, when thrashing a useful sort by 5 lengths, looks very good and he is taken to graduate to group class in style here. Of the many dangers Astaire looks one who could be overpriced whilst Brown Sugar is another who could run a big race

Verdict
1 Canyari
2 Astaire
3 Brown Sugar

630 windsor monday

British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Stakes 6 Furlongs

A really interesting heat, which looks likely to go to one of the newcomers. A few well bred 2 year old's from likely stables go here and it could be a race to keep in the notebook

Bonjour Steve- A consistent type with 2 placed efforts from his 3 runs to date. However this looks a decent contest  and could be stronger than the races he has contested so far. Beaten over 4 lengths on his first try at 6 furlongs last time at Salisbury and will have to improve a chunk if he is to win here

Bowsers Bold- Well beaten in his 2 runs to date and trainer not noted for winners in this sphere-6/78 since 2011- would be a surprise winner

Canary Lad- From the Alan Jarvis stable, owners horses are often well backed and will be see if the money comes for this one. Trainer 0-12 with his juveniles this year, although a few very highly tried, and not enough in his pedigree to make him a play here

Captain Bob- A colt by Dark Angel from the Charlie Hills stable who cost 80,000 Euros as a yearling. Trainer is doing very well with 2yos-13 of 30 have won or been runner up this year- and has crack kiwi jockey James MacDonald on his back. 3 of his siblings have won at two and looks the part on paper

Drinkuptrig- Bushranger colt who was 9th of 13 in a Newmarket maiden over 7 furlongs on debut when he was an unconsidered 66/1 shot. Trainer has a poor strike rate with his juveniles, operating at 3% in the past five years and would have to be very well backed to be considered a win proposition

Kickboxer- Cost 26,000 as a yearling and comes from a family which this trainer has done well with in the past. Plenty of speed in the pedigree with his dam being a 5 furlong winner at two, and having produced the group 2 winning juvenile Ajigilo and other speedy sorts. Already gelded, which is a concern but one to note in the market

Nezar- £65,000 Mastercraftsman colt from the William Haggas stable who are having a productive time with their juveniles. Potentially will be better when upped in trip, and already gelded. Market check essential in relation to his stablemate, but without the benefit of that, it would be natural to think he is the second string for the stable with William Buick on board

Shyron- from a yard who have only sent out one juvenile so far this year. That one is very useful having won her first 2, this jockey on board for debut, before running well at the royal meeting. Potentially well drawn and has a precocious pedigree, dam 5 furlong winner at two, a half sister to others, out of a 5 furlong 2 year old winner. Has to be respected on paper and one to keep an eye on

Smart Salute- Royal Applause colt who got a good mention from his trainer on his website. The stable is well respected in this sphere and can get winners first time out. Cost £55,000 and is out a well connected dam who placed over 7 furlongs on the track. Well worth a second look

Grass Green- only filly in the field and the most expensive of these to sell at auction costing £85,000. Has Ryan Moore on board so is reasonable to assume she is the stables number one here. Dam didn't make the track but is well related, being a half sister to the Raymond Tooth owned group one winning juvenile Indian Ink, and other decent sorts, albeit over further. Very appealing on paper and must be taken seriously for a inform connections

Verdict- possibly an above average maiden which looks likely to go to one of the seven newcomers. Grass Green has to be respected with the fillies allowance for the Haggas team. However preference is given to Charlie Hills colt Captain Bob. This son of Dark Angel cost £80,000 and has relatives who have done well at two. Of the many other interesting newcomers Smart Salute makes most appeal

325 Sandown Friday. Irish Stallions Farms EBF Maiden Stakes

                                                 Friday 6th July  325 Sandown

Irish Stallions Farms EBF Maiden Stakes

An interesting 12 runner maiden which pits a few juveniles with decent form against a few likely looking newcomers

Brownsville- a $50,000 purchase from a well connected US family for the in form Mark Johnston stable who has ran solid races on his two runs to date. Very much looked in the need of experience when 4th on debut but looked more professional when 2nd to a well backed winner at Leicester last time. Has jockey of the moment James Doyle doing the steering this time, but will have to improve in what looks a stronger maiden than the two he has contested so far

Calrissian- Another member of the Alan Jarvis team who was thrown into the deep end at Ascot on debut, ran in the Chesham, who now drops down to maiden class. Ran okay to finish 8th of 19 but there was a lot of dead wood in that race and wouldn't be getting too carried away with the bare form. Promising jockey takes off 5lb but doubt that will be enough to see him winning here

Cape Arrow- from a trainer doing well with his two year old's this year, and some appeal on pedigree and price tag. However hasn't shown enough on the track, in rear at big odds on both starts, to recommend a play

Diapenko- a £42,000 purchase from the first crop of Archipenko out of a winning mare who is closely related to The Kirsten Rausing bred group one winners Gateman and Lady Jane Digby. Looked incredibly unlucky on debut over course and distance when heavily bumped on 3 occasions by Leaderene, ironically owned and bred by Rausing, before staying on to be beaten 1.5 lengths by the useful Downturn. Fallon wasn't overly hard on him that day and the trainers juveniles are famed for improving from first run to second. Must have every chance of making amends for his unlucky debut run here

Dover The Moon- a £100,000 purchase by freshman sire Bushranger for the all conquering Hannon and Hughes partnership. Related to a few useful sorts who showed form at 2, the best of them being the group one placegetter Honours List. Looks the part on paper and holds entries in the Tattersalls sales races at the end of the year. Will likely know his job first time out, but will have to be above average to take this

Early Morning- A New Approach colt out of a group placed mare who is related to crack stayers Papineau and Silver Patriarch. Looks a galloper on pedigree and the trainer has a poor strike rate with his juveniles. I cannot imagine today will be the day

Emirates Galloper- out of a mare who won over 1m 3f but who is related to some speedier types. Being by Dalakhani every chance this one will improve on what he shows today and in time need a trip similar to what his dam excelled at. Connections always have to be feared in these races though- 27% SR here over the last 5 years, 30% UK wide- and it will be interesting to see what the market makes of him on his first trip to the racecourse

Jarlath- cost £8,000, is by Norse Dancer, was beaten 11 lengths on debut at 100/1, and is handled by a trainer who hasn't trained a juvenile winner. No

Munjally- has the highest RPR in the field and has ran two very solid races so far. Was 4th to the impressive Astaire at York on debut, before improving to close the gap on Jallotta, who finished 3.75 lengths ahead of him at York, to 2 lengths when third to that rival in a Newmarket maiden. Looked as if he knew his job, prominent in the market, well enough on both occasions and may not be prone to much improvement. Respected on his form and connections but i feel he may find one or two too good once more

Veya- by Giants Causeway out of Gossamer, who although not as talented on the track as her illustrious namesake proved her worth at stud by producing Irish 2000 guineas winner Bachelor Duke. This colt was expensive at 160,000 euros as a yearling and ran in a hot Leicester maiden, the first two look group performers, on debut. He finished 7th and was beaten a long way but reasons to expect a better display here as he was hampered and noticeably green first time out. William Buick takes over from Tom McLaughlin today and Ed Walker is a capable trainer in this sphere. A potential improver and a possible each way chance at value odds

Full Day- interesting debutant from the Ralph Beckett yard, who posseses a cracking page. He is out of a listed winning mare who finished 4th in the guineas who has produced 2 black type performers from 5 winning foals. This one is by the regally bred freshman sire Champs Elysees who got his first UK winner on the board at Kempton on Wednesday. Plenty to like about his chances on paper and although his trainer hasn't set the world alight with his two year old's this year he remains a trainer to keep onside in this discipline. Has the assistance of the always excellent Jim Crowley and could be a big player in this

Practising- second string for the Beckett Yard. Cheap purchase and looks as if he will need  further than this on pedigree. The jockey just doesn't ride winners- SR of 5%- and unlikely to be winning here

Verdict- A potentially decent maiden but hopefully one with a standout chance. Diapenko was a big eyecatcher over course and distance when finishing second to Downturn and with any improvement should prove tough to beat. I would imagine his main rival in the market will be Munjally but i think the bigger danger could come from the Ralph Beckett first timer Full Day. Of the rest Veya should improve from debut and may well outrun his odds and sneak into a place

1 Diapenko
2 Full Day
3 Veya

Thursday 250 Haydock. The float glass industries EBF maiden fillies stakes Class 5 over 6F

                                                      Thursday 250 haydock
The float glass EBF maiden fillies stakes class 5 over 6f

There are five 2 year old maidens running today, all of which could be described as interesting. I am going to focus on the 12 runner 250 at Haydock, which has the potential to be a decent contest

Flycatcher- from the Richard Fahey stable which continues to fire out numerous juvenile winners, having has a slow enough start to the season. A well bred daughter of Medicean out of a mare who has produced 6 winners, 4 of whom won at two, with two up to collecting black type. The sire is capable of producing speedy juveniles and the dam, a winner over 5 furlongs at 2, appears able to inject some speed into her progeny. One of the more likelier types on paper

Good Morning Lady- a relatively cheap purchase at £10,000 by Compton Place. She is related to five winners, the best being Sirocco Breeze who was a decent performer at the Dubai Carnival of 2010. The dam was a winner herself and is very well related, being a half sister to the dam of two time group one winner Anabaa. Her trainer isn't having the best season with his juveniles-operating at 9%- but is always respected in Northern maidens of this type.

Hot Coffee- a £20,000 purchase for a trainer who does very well at this track with his juveniles-SR of 22% for a P/L of + £42.00. By Haatef out of a mare who has already produced 4 winners, albeit moderate types, from her six foals. Respected due to the trainers stats at the course and has possibilities for the place money

Lady Lara- Excellent Art filly who was highly tried on debut in the Albany at Royal Ascot. Ran really well in the circumstances finishing eighth of nineteen and finishing only 5 lengths off the runner up Sandiva. If the form is to be taken literally she would have a major chance. But i find backing horses who made their debuts in such exalted company on second start is not a profitable tactic. Likely to be well found in the market and not for mine on this occasion

Mumtaza- by Nayef, out of the group one winning juvenile and classic winner Natagora, this filly is certainly bred to be handy. Her full sister Rayaheen won a weak race on debut over 6 furlongs before struggling thereafter when stepped up in class. The trainer is obviously known for his talent in these contests and does particularly well for this owner in them. Obviously of massive interest given her profile and has to be on the shortlist

Omanome- An Acclamation filly who cost connections £45,000. No immediate promise on debut when always in rear beaten 8 lengths by Spiceupyourlife at Ripon two weeks ago. Trainer is always to be respected but this one has to make a big leap from first run to second if she is to get involved

Realistic- By freshman sire Virtual, who is already on the board with a winner, this filly is a half sister to Coventry Third St Barths. Cost £30,000 and the trainer is highly regarded as a trainer of juveniles so enough to like on paper. However you would have to think if it was ready to win on debut Michael Stainton would not have got the leg up. Possibly a horse to keep an eye on although unlikely to win this

Romantic Bliss- By Holy Roman Emperor. Was a cheap foal at £5,000 and unsold at £5,500 as a yearling. From a stable that know how to win these races but this one is unlikely to add to their tally

Setai- Dubawi filly who cost owner Andrew Rosen £50,000 and is housed in the Brian Meehan stable. The dam was useful on the track, listed winner over 8f, and has had success in the breeding shed too, producing 3 winners from 5 foals. The Trainers juveniles are known for improving from debut but a few of his have been running well first time out this year. Fallon gets the leg up which is a positive and it will be interesting to see what position she takes up in the market

Souville- a half sister to the disappointing Bircham this filly is by Dalakhani and would look likely to need a stiffer test than the 6 furlongs on offer here. Her trainer Chris Wall has a meagre strike rate with his two year olds operating at just 6% in the last 5 years. Looks an unlikely winner and readily passed over

Sukari Gold- beaten 18 lengths when last on debut, yet another disappointment for a trainer who is having a very poor time with his two year old's- 2/9 shot turned over recently, season SR of 8%- and this one is unlikely to arrest the slide.

Volodina- by Soviet Star and the 5th foal of a dam who has already produced 4 winners. Has not ran without promise but has still suffered 2 heavy defeats. Trainer struggles for winners in this sphere and looks one for low grade nurseries already

All eyes are likely to be on Mumtaza being the second foal by 1000 guineas winner Natagora. However she is likely to be well found in the market, which will hopefully offer a bit of value on the selection Flycatcher who is also very well bred. Hannon has had the upper hand over Fahey in recent juvenile races up north but hopefully Flycatcher can get one back for the Irishman. Of the rest Hot Coffee is of interest for a trainer whose two year old's often do well here
