200 Doncaster British Stallion EBF Maiden Stakes

                                             British Stallion EBF Maiden Stakes

Agadoo- Multiplex filly who belied her odds of 50/1 when finishing 3rd to the useful Sea Wolf here over 5 furlongs on debut, but was unable to back that up when well down the field at Chester last time. Trainer has yet to train a juvenile winner on turf and that will likely remain the case

Aqlette- Marco Botti juvenile, out of the useful Violette, who looks to emulate her half sister Rasheeda who took this contest on debut last year. Trainer still yet to get going with his two year olds this year however and that is enough of a doubt to leave her this time

Assault on Rome- Not fancied in the market and finished last on debut at Newmarket last week. Will need to come on a tonne for that run and already looks one for nurseries later on

Candle Of The Sea- Inexpensive Makfi filly who has some eye catching entries. However her trainer isn't noted for winning juveniles and possible this is a decent heat. Will need to be worthy of her fancy entries to strike first time up

Hangon Harriet- Won't be adding to Sir Percy's recent spate of juvenile winners

Liberty Sky- Rip Van Winkle filly who represents respected connections. She is a half sister to the very useful Juvenile Missit and looks likely to make a 2yo. Her sire has had a decent start to his career and his trainer and owner are enjoying their usual fine seasons in this sphere. Allied to this she has a jockey on a high, having just won his first classic, and there is a lot to like about her chances

Molly Approve- Cheap purchase from the first crop of Approve and hails from a stable who aren't prolific with their two year olds. Not hard to look elsewhere

Taaqah- Expensive son of Arch who cost $200,000 as a yearling. The trainer can ready one first time out and will no doubt want to prove he can handle such a horse. The market is likely to tell the tale on debut and he looks a fascinating contender

True Course- £300,000 daughter of Dubawi who was well fancied on debut at Newmarket [went off favourite] Only finished 7th that day [rider dropped whip but was well beaten at the time] but the form of the race has had a couple of boosts recently. Plenty of the trainers juveniles have found masses of improvement on their second run this year and a big showing would be no shock

Turning Times- Looks the second string for Godolphin on jockey bookings [also wears the white cap] but there is plenty to like on her page [dam listed placed, very well related] However as mentioned Applebys seem to be improving plenty for their debut run and she will need to be above average to strike first time out in a decent looking contest

Verdict- A fascinating race in which a few could be given a real chance. True Course is obviously well thought of and an improved display here will be no surprise, having gone of favourite for a Newmarket maiden on debut. Taaqah and Aqlette both have plenty to recommend them on paper and both hail from stables who can get them ready at the first time of asking. However neither trainer has hit their straps with the two year olds this year [combined 1/19 this year] and so I have opted for Liberty Sky who hails from the in form Richard Fahey stable. She is related to a few useful sorts and a couple of them showed decent form at 2. She can go close in a very open affair

1 Liberty Sky
2 True Course
3 Taaqah
